Učka’s peak ridge is generally included in the strict protection zone because of the wide range of different types of habitats such as meadows, rocky habitats with cliffs, screes, and forest habitats with well-preserved old forests that abound in animal species. Of particular interest are land snails, among which are numerous endemic species typical of the Istrian area (such as Medeora albescens albescens on the rocks of the Škrile source), and other species that are protected according to the Croatian Nature Protection Law. As many as 31 species of land snails have by now been registered in this area.
